Kokoda Trail 2024

By Matthew Carter

Matt and Anton are walking the Kokoda Trail and raising funds and awareness for bowel cancer and the Jodi Lee Foundation.

Matt and Anton (aka Carter and Woodsy) will be walking the Kokoda Trail in April 2024 and raising funds and awareness for the Jodi Lee Foundation.

Carter and Woodsy are certified roof plumbers who have a passion for fitness and challenging themselves in every facet of their lives. Whether it is riding bikes, trekking, renovating, running after kids or hitting the gym, you can count on these two to push themselves to the limit.

Their next challenge: The Kokoda Trail. A big bucket list item for them both, they are committed to making the most out of this experience and walking in memory of a loved one.

Matt says: "I've been inspired by a family member who conquered Kokoda in 2007, but later battled bowel cancer."

Anton says: "After losing my brother-in-law to cancer this year, it has inspired me to not wait around for the inevitable and kick some goals before I kick the bucket."

We are so grateful to Matt and Anton for committing to this incredible challenge, and raising funds and awareness for bowel cancer and the Jodi Lee Foundation.

Any donation you can give, no matter how small, will help motivate Carter and Woodsy with their journey, and help the Jodi Lee Foundation to continue to raise awareness for the early detection and prevention of bowel cancer.

Bowel cancer is Australia's second deadliest cancer, and leading cancer killer in 25-34 year olds, but it doesn't have to be. If detected early, up to 99% of bowel cancers can be successfully treated.

Thank you for your support.

And that’s a wrap! What an incredible journey, filled with deep gratitude and respect for our fellow Australian soldiers and their families, who sacrifice so much for our country. We couldn't have done it without the unwavering support of our friends, family, businesses, and the wider community, who have shown immense care for health and life.

Anton and I are profoundly thankful for the support of the Jodi Lee Foundation, which continues to educate about early detection and raise awareness for bowel cancer.

Now, we're gearing up for another fundraising endeavor: the 'JLF Trek 2024.' This year, we'll be trekking through the Murray Bridge region, covering 71kms in two days.

Stay tuned for more upcoming events, and a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has donated so far. There's still time to contribute to this incredible cause!

Update Training

Tuesday 12th Mar

Hello, fellow adventurers! It's time for a quick update on our journey as we gear up for the exciting trek that lies ahead. The recent heatwave in Adelaide has proven to be an unexpected ally, providing us with excellent conditions to simulate the challenging weather we might face during our upcoming expedition.

Our training regimen has been nothing short of intense, with walks ranging from 5kms to a whopping 30kms on weekends. The early morning starts, coupled with the scorching heat, have been crucial in preparing us for the demanding conditions that await. Carrying 15kgs in our 70-litre backpacks during each walk has become the norm, inching us closer to our target weight of 20kgs for the trek.

As we diligently check off the items on our packing list, we're thrilled to announce that 95% of our supplies have been secured and packed into our backpacks. The final few essentials are on their way, and the anticipation is building as we visualize ourselves conquering each step of the trail.

But our training doesn't stop there. Beyond the dusty tracks and under the scorching sun, we've been hitting the gym for personalized weight programs. Strengthening our core is paramount, especially since we've chosen to forgo the luxury of porters. The gym sessions are equipping us with the resilience and strength needed to carry the weight of our supplies and fulfill the challenges that lie ahead.

In the spirit of community support, we're excited to share a fantastic opportunity with you all. Our local Golden Grove Tavern, affectionately known as "The Grove," is extending a helping hand to our cause. During the entire month of March, they're offering a generous 10% of their schnitzels proceeds going towards our campaign.

So, if you're looking for a great meal and a chance to contribute to our adventure, be sure to drop by The Grove. Your support means the world to us, and we can't wait to share the tales of our journey with all of you.

Stay tuned for more updates as we inch closer to our grand adventure. Until then, lace up your boots and join us in spirit as we conquer each training session, one step at a time.

Thanks!!
