I’m taking part in The JLF Trek & Trail Run to raise awareness for the early detection and prevention of bowel cancer.
This year I’m taking on the JLF Trek for a very personal reason.
My dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the same age I am now. Being the age he was when he received that diagnosis really puts things into perspective. It’s a powerful reminder of how vulnerable any of us can be — and how important early detection and awareness truly are.
Bowel cancer rates are rising, particularly among younger people. What was once considered an “older person’s disease” is increasingly affecting people in their 30s, 40s and 50s. That’s confronting — and it’s why awareness, education and research matter more than ever.
By participating in this trek, I’m challenging myself physically while helping raise awareness about the importance of screening, recognising symptoms, and having conversations that could genuinely save lives.
If you’re able to support me, thank you. And just as importantly — please know the signs, talk to your doctor if something doesn’t feel right, and don’t put off screening when you’re eligible.
Let’s keep walking toward better awareness, earlier detection, and better outcomes.
